ToC Encore: A Defense for Artists Who Play SeaWorld
Nearly a dozen others refused, but Alan Jackson, Gretchen Wilson and Kid Rock have taken the stage to play SeaWorld's Bands, Brews & BBQ concert series, despite heavy protest from a controversy started after a documentary called 'Blackfish' aired. Should those who play be demonized?
Taste of Country writer Billy Dukes explains why their decision to play is as honorable as others' decision to cancel.
It's unlikely Jackson, Wilson or Kid Rock need the paycheck, and it's less likely they (or comedian Bill Engvall) were unaware of the protesters' appeal. They may not want to politicize their music however, which means ignoring pleas from those who do, and don't, want you to accept the gig. Watch this episode of ToC Encore and decide if these country stars were right to keep their commitments.
