Per a press release, Garth Brooks: The Road I'm On offers an “intimate look into Brooks’ life as a musician, father and man, as well as the moments that have defined his decade-spanning career and seminal hit songs.” The new preview teases Brooks discussing how the 1999 death of his mother Colleen and his 2001 divorce from his first wife, Sandy Mahl, made his break from the music business a necessity.
In addition to candid interview footage of Brooks, additional talking heads in the series include Trisha Yearwood, Keith Urban, George Strait, James Taylor, Brooks bandmate-turned-solo artist Ty England and “The Dance” songwriter Tony Arata. The TV special, which will air in two 2-hour parts, is part of A&E's Biography series.
Garth Brooks: The Road I'm On will premiere on A&E on Nov. 24 and 25. The two-part film launches A&E’s Garth Week programming, which will include a Nov. 26 airing of Brooks’ Yankee Stadium concert.
Brooks' current Stadium Tour follows his 2018 show at Notre Dame Stadium, the first concert ever held at that venue. He's also been playing intimate concerts at a series of dive bars in celebration of his newest single, "Dive Bar."
Brooks has said numerous times that he's working on another studio album, to follow 2016's Gunslinger, reportedly titled Fun. He's also been announced as the 2020 recipient of the Library of Congress' Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.
