How Dependent is Wyoming On the Gun Industry?
In Wyoming, guns are a way of life. To some, a good gun and well-timed shot is the ability to feed your family for the winter. For others, it is about tradition and heritage like the shotgun that has been handed down through the generations. Hunting with the guys (and girls) is quality bonding time. But that only scratches the surface when it comes to guns and Wyoming. There is also the business of firearms.
In a study from WalletHub.com, they determined how dependent each state is in the gun industry. In the political climate of gun violence in the U.S., the study wondered what financial effect would any new legislation have on the gun industry. And what states are the most vulnerable to changes.
Wyoming is the 5th most dependent on guns according to WalletHub.The methodology graded each state using three main factors: firearm industry, gun prevalence, and gun politics.
Wyoming scored well for pro-gun politics. This area looked at gun control laws, gun rights, and the voting habits of Wyoming elected officials. Wyoming is ranked second best for gun politics in the country.
Looking at the firearm industry, they took into factor manufacturers and dealers of guns and ammunition. This also included looking at how much each company sells or makes, and how many people they employ. In this area, Wyoming ranked 5th in the nation. Companies like Weatherby who recently moved to the Cowboy State certainly boost this ranking.
When WalletHub looked at gun prevalence, they wanted to know about the number of guns purchased, and this also included internet searches. Wyoming in this study ranked 17th.
