It's been 20 years since the strange disappearance Lander woman, Amy Wroe Bechtel.

Bechtel was Santa Barbara, California native who attended school at the University of Wyoming where she was a competitive long-distance runner. She had Olympic dreams and hoped to compete in the 2000 summer games.

On July 24, 1997, Amy went jogging in the Shoshone National Forest near Lander. She never returned.

Bechtel was believed to be practicing for an upcoming 10K and running on the course on Lander's "Loop Road." On the day of her disappearance, her husband Steve had been rock climbing in Dubois, Wyoming and returned home that evening to find his wife was not home. At 10:30 p.m. he called the police to report her missing.

On July 25 at 1 a.m. her Toyota Tercel was discovered with many of her belongings inside.

Over the last two decades, investigators have fielded thousands of calls with tips and leads that wound up to ultimately be dead-ends. Investigations included Bechtel's husband as a suspect and also considered a potential animal attack. Later, convicted murderer Dale Wayne Eaton was cited as a suspect, but there's never been enough evidence to officially link him to the case.
