ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., -- Will the return of Harrison Waylee light a fire under this Wyoming team Saturday afternoon in New Mexico?

It certainly doesn't hurt.

The Cowboys' senior running back missed the first eight games of the season after suffering a knee injury late in fall camp. Though he was cleared to play at least two weeks ago, the Iowa product instead decided to redshirt this season, meaning he can appear in four games and still return to Wyoming's backfield in 2025.

Waylee is just 124 rushing yards shy of reaching 3,000 for his career. If he can eclipse that against a Lobos' defense that allows 234 yards on the ground per outing, the visitors could put a three-game losing skid in the rear-view mirror.

Waylee rushed for 191 yards and a touchdown on just 18 carries last October in a 35-26 win over New Mexico.

Kaden Anderson will also make his first-career start Saturday inside University Stadium. The redshirt freshman was solid in an extended role against Utah State, completing 15-of-24 passes for 182 yards in a 27-25 loss to the Aggies. The Texan led the Cowboys on five of their six scoring drives.

We talk about the miscues that have led to this 1-7 start to the Jay Sawvel era, including costly -- and poorly timed -- turnovers, penalties and missed calls. There were plenty of those yellow hankies hitting the turf last Saturday night.

Wyoming (1-7, 1-3) and New Mexico (3-5, 2-2) are scheduled to kickoff Saturday at 2 p.m. The game will be televised on TruTV and streamed on MAX.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
