
MW Players of the Week: UNLV QB Torches Bearkats, 38-21
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Old Trapper Mountain West Football Players of the Week have been announced for Week 1.

UNLV junior quarterback Anthony Colandrea has been tabbed the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week and teammate senior defensive back Aamaris Brown was named MW Defensive Player of the Week. Utah State junior placekicker Tanner Rinker earned MW Special Teams Player of the Week honors and Colorado State running back Jalen Dupree is the MW Freshman of the Week.
The MW awards are the first for each honoree.
OLD TRAPPER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ANTHONY COLANDREA, UNLV
Junior, Quarterback, St. Petersburg, Florida/Virginia
• Completed 19-of-23 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns and rushed six times for 23 yards and another score to lead UNLV past Sam Houston, 38-21.
• Completed 83 percent of his passes and fashioned a passing efficiency of 193.5.
• Went 5-for-5 for 68 yards and a 43-yard touchdown on the Rebels’ first series of the game.
• Added a 3-yard TD pass later in the first quarter to UNLV on top for good before scoring on a 13-yard run to cap the Rebel scoring in the fourth.
OLD TRAPPER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
AAMARIS BROWN, UNLV
Senior, Defensive Back, Tampa, Florida/South Florida
• Recorded four tackles and an interception return for a touchdown in UNLV’s 38-21 win at Sam Houston.
• All four of his tackles were solo stops, including three tackles for loss, two of which were sacks.
• Picked off a Bearkat pass and returned it 52 yards for a score in the second quarter.
• After Sam Houston recovered an onside kick in the fourth quarter, Brown sacked the Bearkats’ quarterback on fourth-and-5, forcing a turnover on downs and allowing the Rebels to run out the clock.
OLD TRAPPER SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
TANNER RINKER, UTAH STATE
Junior, Placekicker, Castle Rock, Colorado/Garden City CC
• Went 2-for-2 on field goals and converted a pair of point-after tries for eight points in Utah State’s 28-16 win over UTEP.
• Booted a career-long 49-yard field goal in the first quarter to open the scoring.
• Drilled a 28-yard field goal in the second quarter to extend the Aggies’ lead to 13-7.
OLD TRAPPER FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
JALEN DUPREE, COLORADO STATE
Redshirt Freshman, Running Back, Benton, Arkansas/Malvern HS
• Rushed 15 times for 92 yards and a touchdown in Colorado State’s 38-21 loss at Washington, which entered the contest receiving votes in the preseason US LBM Coaches’ Poll.
• His touchdown came on a 15-yard run to knot the game at 14 just before halftime.
• Averaged 6.1 yards per carry and had three runs of 15 yards or more.
• Totaled 67 yards on seven carries in the first quarter.
