COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico sophomore quarterback Devon Dampier has been named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week, while UNLV senior defensive back Jalen Catalon is the MW Defensive Player of the Week.

Rebel placekicker Caden Chittenden was named the MW Special Teams Player of the Week and MW Freshman of the Week.

The weekly awards are the fourth and fifth for Chittenden, second for Catalon and first for Dampier.

 

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DEVON DAMPIER, NEW MEXICO

Sophomore, Quarterback, Phoenix, Ariz./Seguaro HS

* Accounted for 377 yards of total offense and four touchdowns in leading New Mexico to a 50-45 comeback win at Utah State.
* Was 17-for-23 for 272 yards and two touchdowns through the air, fashioning a 149.8 pass efficiency.
* Rushed 15 times for 105 yards and two TDs, averaging 7.0 yards per carry.
* Led the Lobos back from deficits of 17-0 and 31-15, helping them to the largest road second-half comeback in program history.
* Got the rally started with TD throws of 21 and 14 yards in the second quarter as UNM pulled within three at 17-14 before rushing for a 33-yard touchdown in the third quarter and adding a 5-yard scoring run with 3:56 to play in the fourth.

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

JALEN CATALON, UNLV

Senior, Defensive Back, Mansfield, Texas/Mansfield Legacy HS/Arkansas/Texas

* Had 10 tackles (six solo), a sack and a forced fumble in UNLV’s 33-25 win at Oregon State.
* With UNLV trailing 17-16 in the third quarter, Catalon ripped the ball loose after an Oregon State 7-yard run, with the Rebels recovering the fumble at the OSU 19-yard line and scoring two plays later to take a lead they would not relinquish.
* Had another key defensive play in the fourth quarter with UNLV leading 26-17, sacking the Beavers’ quarterback for a seven-yard loss on a third-and-17 play at midfield, forcing a punt.
* Helped UNLV pick up its sixth win of the season and become bowl eligible in consecutive seasons for the first time in program history.

 

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER/FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

CADEN CHITTENDEN, UNLV

Freshman, Placekicker, Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran HS

* Scored 15 points in UNLV’s 33-25 win at Oregon State, connecting on a career-best four field goals and three extra points. Also kicked off seven times, recording four touchbacks.
* Hit field goals from 20, 34, 34 and 29 yards, connecting twice in the second quarter, including as time expired in the first half to draw the Rebels within at point at 17-16.
* Scored in double figures for the sixth straight game and swept MW Special Teams Player and MW Freshman of the Week honors for the second time this season.
* Pushed his season total to 17 made field goals and 2.43 per game, both FBS-bests.
Helped UNLV to its school-record sixth straight road victory.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
