PODCAST: Breaking Down Offseason For Wyoming Football

LARAMIE -- Competition and depth.

Those are two aspects of the Wyoming football program Jay Sawvel and Co. focused on this offseason, coming off a disappointing 3-9 campaign in 2024.

Twenty high school products were inked on early signing day. There will be more next month, too. Fifteen joined the roster via the NCAA Transfer portal over the previous two months, mainly a crop from the lower ranks of college football, just like the head coach said they would.

That strategy worked for Kenny Dillingham and the Arizona State Sun Devils. Will it work in Laramie?

Fourteen left in free agency, including four starters: cornerback Tyrecus Davis, defensive tackle Jaden Williams (Kentucky) and wide receivers Justin Stevenson (Utah) and TK King (New Mexico State). Davis had no eligibility remaining until a ruling was made to let former JUCO players suit up once again.

The coaching staff will also look a tad different when spring practice begins March 25.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert Gagliardi, Jared Newland, Ryan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
