Sawvel and Co. Land Experienced JUCO Quarterback
LARAMIE -- Jay Sawvel said back in December he wanted to add a junior college quarterback this offseason.
There's a number of reasons for that.
There isn't a single signal caller on the current roster, aside from presumptive starter Kaden Anderson, who has ever taken a snap at the college level. Wyoming's second-year head coach also added he has no desire to throw prized in-state recruit Mason Drube into the fire, either.

Enter Landon Sims.
The sophomore gunslinger, who spent the previous three seasons at East Central Community College, made it official Monday, signing his letter of intent. The Alabama native has three years of eligibility remaining.
"What I didn't want to have happen is to be in a situation where, if something happened (to Anderson) and Mason had to play, we didn't have someone else there as a buffer, and we're playing him before he's ready," Sawvel said during his signing day press conference. "So, that plan was thought out."
Sims becomes the 15th incoming transfer this winter, the fifth on the offensive side of the ball.
He joins a QB room with Anderson and Drube, along with Sophomore Gage Brook and redshirt freshman Deyon Batiste. Sawvel has said he wants to carry five on the roster this fall.
Sims, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs in at 190 pounds, earned First Team All-MACCC honors in 2024 after throwing for 1,760 yards and 13 touchdowns while leading the Warriors to a No. 7 national ranking. He completed nearly 60% of his passes in his 11 starts.

Sims was picked off four times last fall. Those misfires all happened in the first four weeks of the season. Over the final seven outings, the former Escambia Academy standout tossed eight touchdowns and averaged nearly 170 yards per game through the air.
Arguably his best outing came in an easy 42-13 road victory over Hinds in Week 5. Sims threw for 190 yards and three touchdowns while connecting on 18-of-29 throws. He also added a season-high 51 yards on the ground on just seven attempts.
Sims capped his three-year stint in Decatur with 2,376 passing yards and 19 touchdowns. He also scored three times on the ground and amassed 269 additional yards of total offense.
Sims was also offered by Florida International, Charleston Southern, North Carolina A&T and Youngstown State.
After landing the veteran quarterback, Wyoming's staff is likely done adding to the roster until Feb. 5, the NCAA's traditional signing day.
Sawvel, in an effort to ink roughly 42 newcomers this winter, is in search of a punter/ kicker combination and a back-up long snapper, along with an additional defensive tackle and edge rusher from the high school ranks, according to a source familiar with the situation.
That same source indicated the school will also look to bring on another prep running back.
