LARAMIE -- Jay Sawvel said he is in the process of finding 105 players that will ride for the brand.

Wyoming's head coach is admittedly in "full-roster mode," focused on bringing in the right fits through both free agency and the high school level. The Cowboys inked 25 rookies, so far, in the 2025 class. They also added Snow College cornerback BJ Inmon.

Sawvel is having some difficult discussions with guys on his current roster, too. Some of them won't be around for the retooling of this lineup.

What will it take to make the cut?

"When they wake up, yeah, they have to go to class, but the first thing they better think about is football," Sawvel said.

Sounds simple enough, right?

Worried about the transfer portal after a 3-9 campaign?

Sawvel certainly sounds confident that the players he wants to stay, for the most part, will. Since making that comment, a trio of senior starters have left the program: running back Harrison Waylee, edge rusher Sabastian Harsh and nickel corner Wrook Brown. Cornerback Keany Parks also bolted. So did fellow defensive back Charles Williams, pass rusher Dawan Martin and quarterback Deyon Batiste.

"By and large, I think if we put out a list of people that I anticipate and expect to be here, going through the spring and playing next fall, everybody would be pretty happy with that list right now," he added.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
