Central Wyoming College is working to expand with a new building in Jackson.

In 2022, Jackson voted to use taxpayer money to build a new building to house the Central Wyoming College campus in town. At the end of February, the town council voted to move ahead with the plan to design a 20,500-square-foot building near Jackson High School.

The main Central Wyoming College campus is in Riverton, and it has campuses in other cities like Lander, Dubois, and Jackson. The Jackson campus has been a part of CWC since the 1970s but has always been a part of other existing locations. Thanks to the Special Purpose Excise Tax that allocated $10 million in 2022, that will change now.

CWC offers over 50 options for degrees in many different fields, from accounting to welding, and having a new building dedicated solely to the school will be a huge opportunity for students.

The next step in the process will be for a development plan to be reviewed before moving on to the next step. According to a report at Buckrail.com, some concerns still need to be addressed before final approval is given.

  • Traffic Demand Management Plan.
  • Plan for landscaping from a Wyoming Landscape Architect.
  • Complete parking lot plans.
  • Safe way for bikes and pedestrians to connect to other local schools.
  • As part of the Development Plan submittal, they'll have to get all parties and departments on the same page with a final streetscape plan.
