Will Self-Checkout Be Reduced At Target Stores Across Wyoming?

Rumors float around the internet, especially if someone is a disgruntled employee who has had a bad experience at a store. You hear and read them constantly, and they're not always true.

One of the rumors I've heard lately is that major chain stores are eliminating self-checkout completely or at least reducing it. When you read or hear that rumor, you either let out a happy laugh or booed and shed a tear.

According to a report in RetailWire, the self-checkout issue rumors are partially true.  However, if you get excited at the thought and hope it's going away, it's not. The report says that some of Target's nearly 2,000 stores have only reduced the hours self-checkout lines are available.

According to a Target group on Reddit, some employees have noticed that the stores they work for have already made some changes, like self-checkout lanes opening later than the store and closing up to two hours before the store

A few key speculations causing the changes were:

• Not having enough employees.
• An uptick in shoplifting.
• Intentionally missed scans.

In Wyoming, there are three Target stores.

Casper - Opens at 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.

Cheyenne - Opens at 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.

Jackson - Opens 7 a.m. M-F & 8 a.m. Sat & Sun - 10 p.m.

As I mentioned at the beginning, there are plenty of rumors around the internet, and you can't always believe all of those rumors. According to a report on Target.com, the company just announced plans to deliver enhanced shopping experiences in 2024.

A statement from Target's Chair and chief executive officer, Brian Cornell, seems to back that up.

Target says it looks to launch and expand its brands, giving customers more options. Plans are underway to build 300 more stores and invest in the current stores.
