The Laramie Rangers have their sights set on the 2025 AA American Legion Baseball State Tournament in Cheyenne. It starts on Monday, July 28, and goes through Friday, August 1, at Powers Field. Laramie will face the Sheridan Troopers in the first round for the second consecutive season. They play the first game of the tournament at 9:30 a.m. on Monday. KOWB Radio (AM 1290) will air all the Rangers’ games from the state tourney.

LARAMIE LEGION BASEBALL PREPS FOR THE 2025 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Laramie is 27-33 on the season. They went 7-7 and tied for fourth in the AA conference standings with Sheridan. The Troopers swept the Rangers in the two league games this year, so Sheridan got the fourth seed and will be the home team in this match-up.

Seventh-year Laramie manager Aaron Lozano told KOWB that he’s excited about this group entering the state tournament.

“We have a very different look than we’re used to, and what people are used to. I think we have a lot more arms (for pitching), as far as the number of arms this year. I think that’s what you need at a state tournament. These guys are relaxed and ready to go, and we’re looking to have some fun and make some noise.”

The Rangers have advanced to Day 4 of the state tournament each of the last two seasons, which means they’ve been among the last four teams playing.

What Are the Players' Thoughts Going into the State Tournament

KOWB’s David Settle caught up with seniors Diego Herrera and Larsen Wesnitzer to preview the state tournament in the video at the top of this story. Herrera discussed how he’s feeling going into his last state tournament and trying to topple the one team they haven’t beaten in the state this year. Wesnitzer added that the focus has to be on playing as a team, playing well offensively, and making some adjustments against Sheridan.

The Troopers are 42-25 this year and are 3-0 against Laramie in the 2025 season.

Lozano added that the first-round match-up comes down to two things for him.

"Sheridan is really talented offensively. They can play small ball. They can drive the ball in the gaps. They’ve got guys who can hit home runs, so we really have to keep their offense in check… If we can field our position well, on defense, that’s step one. Step two is we have to hit the ball… We have to be able to go out and face whoever they throw at us and be willing to play team offense, make some sacrifices, move guys over; that kind of thing.”

Here are Laramie's Stat Leaders During the 2025 Season

The Rangers have just a .265 team batting average this season. Trace Looney leads the team at .371 with 53 total hits and a team-high 41 RBIs. Herrera paces Laramie with 58 total hits and has a .322 batting average with 35 RBIs and 47 runs scored. Ben Malone is third on the team with a .314 batting average.

The team ERA is just 3.645 this season. Wesnitzer has thrown the most innings at 77.2. He is 6-7 this year with an ERA of 2.974. Garrett Hesco is also tied for the team lead with six wins. Landon Lotzer has five. Hesco’s ERA is 2.811, and Lotzer’s is 3.039. The stats were provided by GameChanger.

Sheridan has a team batting average of .304. They have five players above .300 and two more above .293. Their team ERA is 4.004.

First pitch is at 9:30 a.m. on Monday. KOWB will be in Cheyenne for live coverage all week. Monday’s broadcast starts at 9:10 a.m.
