Laramie Plainsmen football is back! The 2024 season debuts tonight with Laramie heading to Cheyenne to play the No. 2 East Thunderbirds. The game starts the Jake Chick era of LHS football, as he was hired last spring to take the reigns of the program. The game starts at 6 p.m. at Okie Blanchard Stadium in the Capital City.

Laramie went 1-8 last year and finished ninth out of ten teams in Class 4A. After the resignation of Paul Ronga last fall, the Plainsmen have a new leader in former assistant coach Jake Chick. With him comes a new philosophy, as it does with any new coach.

KOWB’s David Settle discusses entering the first game with new coach Jake Chick, how preparation has gone, facing Cheyenne East in the first game, and more.

The Plainsmen return five starters on offense and five on defense. They have 17 varsity letter winners returning from last year’s squad. Seniors Fisher Frude, Max Alexander, Noah Kirsch, Will Brinegar, Evan Crum, Andres Gutierrez, and more will lead the team into the new season.

Laramie has not beaten Cheyenne East since 2016. The Thunderbirds went 10-2 last season and finished as the 4A runner-up. They lost several starters on both sides of the ball, but the Plainsmen know East will reload, and that they will be in for a challenge against one of 4A’s typical powers.

KOWB Radio (AM 1290) will broadcast the game live. The coverage starts at 5 p.m. David Settle and Aaron Lozano will call the action from Cheyenne.
