It’s back on the road for the Laramie Plainsmen football team. They seek their first win for new head coach Jake Chick as they take on the Kelly Walsh Trojans in Casper on Friday night in Week 1 of the 2024 high school football season. Both teams lost their season opener on the road last week.

LARAMIE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME PREVIEW AT KELLY WALSH

Laramie fell at No. 2 Cheyenne East last Friday night, 37-6. It was a 17-6 game late in the third quarter when the Plainsmen forced a punt by the Thunderbirds, but a turnover gave the ball back to East. Three plays later, they extended their lead to 23-6, and LHS never recovered.

Kelly Walsh lost at No. 3 Campbell County 34-0. That was a 13-0 game starting the fourth quarter, and the Camels scored twice in the first minute, once on offense and another on defense, that broke the game wide open.

Neither team had a great offense day in game one. Laramie produced 174 yards of total offense. That equated to 3.6 yards per play. The Trojans were limited to 121 yards of total offense and 2.6 yards per play. They are the bottom two teams in total defense after the first game. Kelly Walsh allowed 349 yards, while Laramie gave up 415 yards.

Both would love to break through with a victory Friday night.

Laramie Head Coach Jake Chick Provides Insight Into The Next Game

Plainsmen head coach Jake Chick previews the game with KOWB’s David Settle. They discussed lessons learned from the first game, fixing issues, looking ahead to the Trojans, and how they will play on Friday night.

Laramie is led by QB Fisher Frude. He accounted for 158 yards of total offense at East. Max Alexander had seven catches for 111 yards last week. Will Brinegar had 18 defensive points last week and is No. 4 in Class 4A in that category.

Kelly Walsh is led by first-year head coach Randy Roden. Their key players are running back Landon Walker, who ran for 45 yards last week, and QB Carter Alvar. Defensively, Bruce West leads Class 4A with 30 defensive points. He made 8 tackles, which included 5 tackles for loss and 2 sacks last week against Campbell County.

Friday night is the 49th meeting on the football field between the two schools. Laramie leads the series 25-23, but Kelly Walsh has won three of the last four, including 20-3 last year.

The kick-off is at 6 p.m. at Harry Geldien Stadium in Casper.
