Amid the social media backlash, Wallen hopped on Instagram Stories on Saturday night to set the record straight about how he decided to scrap the show.

He said that his team advised him to cancel the show after consulting with local officials, and he agreed. "That was the information I had in that moment, and I trusted my team," Wallen explained.

"I understand that the wind and whatever else hasn't gotten to Pittsburgh yet," the singer continued.

"But the truth of the matter is, I have a large stage that in those conditions could become fatal to a lot of folks around it," he pointed out. "So I did the best I could with the information I had in that moment."

"I've been seeing a lot of nonsense about me that is simply not true," Wallen added, "and I just wanted to clear the air. I think my true fans know that that's not how I operate in general, but I had to say it."

Though Pittsburgh escaped much of the forecasted severe weather, the area south of the city did experience damage due to high winds and a "possible brief tornado," per Trib Live. Wallen expressed his sympathies to those in the path of the storms, saying "my heart goes out to all those affected by" the weather events.

What Did Fans Say About Morgan Wallen's Canceled Show in Pittsburgh?

Multiple fans shared photos of the area where Wallen was set to perform on Saturday night, highlighting the fact that the projected adverse weather never showed up.

Some fans criticized him for not waiting it out a little longer before pulling the plug on the show, noting that the weather forecast was looking much better by late afternoon.

Other fans came to Wallen's defense, pointing out that someone could have gotten seriously hurt if he'd kept the show going as planned and severe weather hit.

And some other events in Pittsburgh went on as scheduled. Ultimate frisbee team the PGH Thunderbirds invited Wallen's fans down for Dollar Hot Dog Night.

And baseball team the Washington Wild Things even offered free entry to their game for anyone with tickets to Wallen's canceled show.
