Robin Williams’ Son Remembers His Dad on 10th Anniversary of His Death
Growing up, Mrs. Doubtfire was a movie that stuck with many people as it was one of Robin William's funniest and most memorable roles in a movie. Of course there were the serious ones as well, such as Good Will Hunting.
Williams was a one-of-a-kind actor and an even better human. Tragically, he took his own life 10 years ago, at the age of 63.
Robin Williams' Son Remembers Him 10 Years After Actor's Death
Zak Williams, one of three children that Williams fathered, sat down with USA Today to give a candid interview and reflect on these past 10 years, since his father passed.
One of the questions he was asked was what he thought his father's favorite movie to make was. Williams said, Good Morning, Vietnam was an experience, it's my favorite film of his. And I think he just had a blast doing it."
Williams further explains why his dad loved making that movie so much. "We come from a Navy family, so for him it was fun to have an opportunity to represent someone from the Armed Forces."
That wasn't his father's only favorite movie, he shared. There was another, but Robin Williams didn't love the movie for the same reasons that we might have. His son said, "I think he loved Mrs. Doubtfire because he had an opportunity to film that in the Bay Area and be near his family (while making) it."
Williams was always a family man, and loved being around his children and making others laugh.
His son recalls what it was like growing up with Williams as a dad. "He loved playing video games and collecting toys and comic books. I mean, he was a big kid at heart."
Just goes to show you no matter how hard you might try to set things up as a parent, the kids remember how you make them feel. Williams continued to share fond memories with his dad saying, "The memories I'm most fond of in terms of our private family life relate to my siblings and spending time with him basically being a big kid."
Interestingly enough, Williams' son, Zak, says that in San Francisco, where they grew up, their dad wasn't known locally as the famous guy, he was just known around town as Robin.
"Folks would just know him for biking around town ... and just being a super-friendly guy in the neighborhood," he said.
It's hard to believe that it has been ten years since we lost one of the funniest, and best actors that this country has ever seen. Hearing from Robin's son, helps remember his dad as the positive light that he was for us all.
