City of Laramie Welcomes Three New City Council Members
The City of Laramie is excited to announce and welcome three new City Council members, according to a recent release.
City Council members are valued voices of the Laramie community and play important roles in communicating with residents, responding to needs, and representing the community to other levels of City government.
Welcome, Micah, Brandon, and Joe!
Micah Richardson
Born and raised in Wyoming, Micah Richardson has called Laramie home for approximately eight years. She is currently the Director of Programs at the Wyoming Community Foundation. Micah has an eight-year-old son who loves pretending and a tech-loving partner who has run at least a mile every day for 14 years. Micah loves Laramie, chocolate chip cookies, and any opportunity to get outside.
Brandon Newman
Brandon Newman was taught at a young age to work hard and stand up for what is right. Together with his wife, they have three wonderful children and have continued to foster many more. Brandon looks forward to serving on Laramie City Council for the citizens of the city.
Joe Shumway
Joe Shumway is married to Susan Harding. They have nine children and thirty-one grandchildren. Joe has lived in Laramie Wyoming since 1981 and has held various elected offices from 1993 to the present. He has served on over thirty boards and committees within the City of Laramie, the State of Wyoming, and the United States of America.
The City is excited to welcome these new members who will dedicate time and attention to the needs of the community. The swearing-in took place on January 3rd, 2023 at the City of Laramie Council Chambers.

The City is also thrilled to once again welcome Council Member, Erin O’Doherty, who was sworn in for a second term on January 3rd.
Erin O'Doherty
Erin was born in Baltimore and went to graduate school in Georgia. After post-doctoral positions in Texas and Colorado, she moved to Laramie in 1991 to join her new husband James, and to work as a research wildlife ecologist for the Forest Service. Rather than leave Laramie to retain her job when the Forestry Sciences Lab here closed, she started managing and analyzing data for nonprofit groups. She and James raised two children in Laramie who share their love of skiing, rafting, camping, and generally “nerding out on science.”
