Former Kappa Kappa Gamma Member Speaks Out On Transgender Issue

A former member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and the organization's alumnae association is speaking out on a lawsuit over the forced inclusion of a transgender member in the University of Wyoming chapter of the organization.

Six former members of the sorority have filed a lawsuit against the national organization over the forced inclusion of a transgender member in the Laramie Chapter. That lawsuit was dismissed without prejudice--meaning it can be refiled with some changes by U.S. District Court Judge Alan Johnson in Cheyenne last year. The six are appealing that dismissal to the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver. That court held a hearing on the appeal last week, but a decision may not be issued for 2-4 months or more.

Cheryl Tuck Smith says she was a KKG member in college and then of the sorority's alumnae association until she was kicked out for speaking out on the issue of transgender members.

She called Glenn Woods on the ''Wake Up Wyoming'' to discuss the lawsuit, the appeals court hearing last week, and the larger issue of whether transgender people born as males should be allowed to join Kappa Kappa Gamma.
