The sun is shining, leaves are green, and traffic cones are sprouting. It’s construction season in Wyoming, as many residents are already aware.

3rd Street

The detour to get a morning caffeine fix at Safeway is due to the 3rd Street water main being repaired and, in some sections, replaced. The first section between Lewis & Gibbon is complete; crews are working on Lewis to University. The next two phases will include streets from University to Sheridan. The WYDOT-initiated project is scheduled to be completed this fall, so expect several more months of 4th Street stop-and-go.

Curtis Street Bridge

The Curtis Street Bridge project is also underway as WYDOT has plans for a wider bridge which will include a left turn lane and a multi-use pathway for pedestrians and cyclists, according to their press release. As of now, McCue St. is local traffic only, and temporary stoplights are installed on Snowy Range Road and Cedar & Curtis. I-80 will remain open, but lane shifts and flaggers will be used as needed, and ramps will be closed as necessary. The bridge replacement is expected to be completed this fall.

West Laramie Stormwater Project

On deck for this summer is the West Laramie Stormwater Project to install storm drainage, pave roads, and install curb and gutter on the west side. According to Brooks Webb Public Works Director, the first phase should be completed in the Spring of 2024, which includes all work for storm drainage on Buchanan, Van Buren, and Adams streets. Phase 2 of the design includes the construction of Wyoming Avenue between Pierce Street and Johnson Street and Colorado Avenue between Jefferson Street and Wyoming Avenue. The water mains within this area will also be upgraded during construction, with all work being completed in the fall of 2024.
