Gardner, Swalstad, and Hilton Earn WyoPreps Athlete of the Week Honors [VIDEO]
A golfer, cross-country runner, and football player received the WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors for week three of the 2024-25 sports year. The recipients were Shelbi Gardner from Sheridan, Worland’s Trajn Swalstad, and Andre Hilton from Rock Springs. Gardner won a golf invite, Swalstad set records in the first cross-country race of the season, and Hilton was instrumental in the Tigers’ win to start the season.

Girls Winner
Gardner captured the medalist honor at the Thunder Basin Invite last week. She shot 84 in the first round. Gardner followed that with a second-round low of 77 for a two-round total of 161 at the Bell Knob Golf Course in Gillette. Her margin of victory was eight shots. Gardner also helped Sheridan take first in the team standings by three shots.
WyoPreps visited with Shelbi and asked her to assess her play, what went well on day two, how the Sheridan girls’ golf team continues to be near the top of 4A, and more.
Boys Co-Winners
Swalstad won the Wyoming Invitational cross-country race in Cheyenne at Little America Golf Course last Friday. His winning time was 16:10.57. Trajn won the race by ten seconds and set the course record by five seconds. It was also the second-fastest time on a Wyoming State Championship course.
WyoPreps spoke to Trajn about the victory, his strategy in the race, what he learned about the course for the future and more.
Hilton helped Rock Springs win their 2024 season debut, 23-16, over Cheyenne Central. Hilton had 27 defensive points in the victory. He made seven tackles, had three pass breakups, and two interceptions. His last interception clinched the win for Rock Springs.
