Cody Cubs Win the Division 2 Legion Baseball State Crown in 2026 [VIDEO, PHOTOS]

The Cody Cubs won their first state baseball title since 2022 on Monday. They beat the Jackson Giants 11-1 in the Wyoming American Legion Baseball Division 2 State Championship game in Green River. The Cubs scored four times in the first inning without a hit and finished off the Giants in four innings.

THE CODY CUBS CLAIM THE D2 LEGION BASEBALL STATE TITLE

Cody benefited from two errors, two walks, a hit batter, a balk, and a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. An RBI single by Russell Undeberg in the second made it 5-0. Cody pushed the lead to 7-0 in the third inning on an error and a squeeze bunt. Jackson's lone run came in the bottom of that frame. Derringer Holding doubled to start the inning and moved to third on a wild pitch. He came home on an RBI groundout by Brenden Menke. It was 7-1 going into the fourth inning.

The Cubs put together a two-out rally. Tate Machen's RBI single made it 8-1. Three batters later, Gaige Machen smacked a base hit to left field, scoring two more runs. Kanin Phillips followed with an RBI single. Cody led 11-1. In the bottom of the fourth, Jackson had a runner at third with one out. A fly ball turned into a double play. The fly ball was caught, and the runner tagging from third was thrown out at the plate to end the game.

Gaige Machen led the Cody offense with the two-run single. Five other teammates finished with one hit and one RBI. Lane Delzer got the win on the mound. He allowed one run on three hits. Delzer walked one, hit one batter, and struck out three.

Cody's Kanin Phillips was named the state tournament MVP.

The Lovell Mustangs earned the D2 State Tournament Sportsmanship Award.

Jackson bested Lovell to reach the title game

Lovell made it to Day 5, but they lost to Jackson, 3-0, on Monday afternoon. The Giants scored on an error in the first inning, and another error in the fourth led to two runs. Despite getting out-hit, six to four, Jackson advanced to the championship game. Corbin Goodell tossed a shutout. He scattered six hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
