Pinedale High School’s Elyn Bowers was selected as the Gatorade Wyoming Girls Basketball Player of the Year for the 2024-25 season. In its 40th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company announced the award via release to the media. Bowers is the first player chosen from Pinedale High School. She’s a three-time all-state and all-conference pick in her prep career.

The 5-8 guard led the Wranglers to a 22-2 record and a berth in the Class 3A girls’ basketball state tournament. Bowers averaged 26.5 points per game, which was second in the state. The senior added a class-leading 4.3 assists, 4.3 steals, and 4.1 rebounds per game at the time of her selection. Bowers shot 52 percent from the field and 78 percent at the free-throw line. She’s been a two-time Class 3A West Region Player of the Year. Entering the state tournament, Bowers has 2,193 career points, which is third-most in state history. She ranks in the top ten of six statistical categories in the state. That includes No. 2 in three-point field goal percentage and free throw percentage.

A talented artist who enjoys making ceramics and pottery, Bowers has volunteered locally with Pinedale’s Soup-er-Bowl, serving as emcee and auctioneer for the fundraiser to benefit the Pinedale Angel Wreath program. She has also donated her time as a peer mentor and youth basketball coach. Bowers has maintained a 4.0 GPA in the classroom and ranks No. 1 in her graduating class. She signed her National Letter of Intent to play at Eastern Washington University last fall.

Cody head coach Chris Wagner praised Bowers for her all-around game in a release from The Gatorade Company.

“Elyn has a remarkable set of skills and can impact the game in so many ways. She’s lethal if she gets in rhythm from 3, she can pull up off the dribble and she can get airborne and finish at the basket. I feel her defense can get overlooked because of how much attention she gets on offense, but she is a great defender as well.”

The award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. It distinguishes Elyn Bowers as Wyoming’s best high school girls basketball player. She is a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year award to be announced later this month.

Bowers joins recent winners Molly Hays from Cody (2023-24 and 2022-23), Jordan Jones of Cheyenne East (2021-22), and Allyson Fertig from Douglas High School (2020-21 & 2019-20), among the state’s list of previous winners of this award.
