Stop No. 5 on last week’s WyoPreps Preseason Basketball Tour for 2025 was in the Razor City of Gillette to see the Campbell County Camels. Last season was a very successful one for the Camels. The boys won the 4A state championship and finished at 17-8. The girls took third place and went 14-12. The Campbell County guys lost three key seniors but return a great core to start the new season. The Camel girls will try to reload after losing some valuable pieces.

WYOPREPS PRESEASON BASKETBALL TOUR: CAMPBELL COUNTY BASKETBALL

Campbell County’s girls’ squad lost four seniors to graduation. Two of them, Kaylie Neary and Lauren Kuhbacher, were all-state players and four-year contributors. While a few others got some playing time, the only regular rotation players returning are senior Tarryn Haugen and sophomore Bella Stewart. Haugen averaged 3.7 points per game, while Stewart chipped in 2.3 points and 4.4 rebounds per game as a freshman. That means it’s a bit of a fresh start for the Camels.

To preview Campbell County’s season, WyoPreps interviewed players and the coach

WyoPreps spoke with Haugen, Stewart, and head coach Braidi Lutgen to see how practice was going, what they’re focusing on, adjusting to life without some key players, where they can still improve, and more.

The defending champion Camels lost all-state players Lane Hladky and Truman Degrange, plus all-conference performer Nomar Gonzalez, and Michael Biggs from their title-winning team. Then, head coach Bubba Hladky chose to step away as head coach in the off-season. The cupboard is far from bare. Senior Jack Andela, who was all-state last year, returns to lead the Camels, along with fellow senior guard Brode Jarvis. Andela averaged 15.2 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Jarvis was the floor general and averaged 3.1 assists per game. The duo will be counted on to lead the charge into 2026, but six more players from that title team are back, as well.

To preview Campbell County’s season, WyoPreps interviewed two players

WyoPreps visited with Andela and Jarvis about the new season. They discussed how practice is going, adjusting to new head coach Cameron Anderson, dealing with being the defending champs, improving their defense, and more. We did not have a chance to visit with Coach Anderson due to time constraints in our schedule.

Both Campbell County teams open at home this weekend with the Gillette/REMAX Early Bird Basketball Tournament. The Camel girls will play Castle View (CO), Scottsbluff (NE), and Bismarck Century (ND). The boys will face Pine Ridge (SD), Scottsbluff, and Bismarck Century.
