WyoPreps Opens Basketball Tour with Hungry Big Horn Girls Squad [VIDEO]
After missing last year due to work schedule conflicts, WyoPreps is excited to be back on our Preseason Basketball Tour this season. Our focus is on the northeast part of Wyoming. The first stop on the tour was in Big Horn to catch up with the girls’ squad. Coty Nikont begins his second season at the helm. The Rams went 16-13 last season, but with plenty of experience returning, they are looking forward to the 2026 season.
WyoPreps Preseason Basketball Tour: Big Horn Rams Girls Basketball
Big Horn has three starters and seven varsity players back from last season. The Rams lost in the consolation game at the state tournament. That followed a fourth-place finish in their conference and a third-place result at the regional tournament. They add to their roster junior Afton Cummins, who moved in after winning two state titles at rival Tongue River the last two years. She averaged 11.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game in the 2024-25 season. Add 5.7 steals per game to those incredible totals. Despite a lack of size, Big Horn should be a factor in a deep and competitive 2A division.

To preview the Big Horn season, WyoPreps interviewed the coach and two players
WyoPreps had an opportunity to visit with sophomore Ava Taylor, who contributed 8.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game as a freshman last season, and Cummins, along with Coach Nikont, to preview the upcoming season. We discussed how practice has gone, what this year’s Rams’ team is like, strengths and concerns, what to work on, and had some fun with the two players.
Big Horn opens the season at the Burns Insurance Winter Classic against Southeast, Burns, and Wheatland next weekend.
