Campbell County Edges Cheyenne Central in 4A Football
Campell County certainly has the talent to compete for a 4A state championship in football this season and the Camels are 2-0 after a gutsy 21-19 road win over Cheyenne Cenntral on Friday.
After a scoreless first quarter, Central took the lead on 6 yard touchdown pass from lane Clement to Will Pauley to give the Indians a 6-0 lead. It was an eventful 3rd quarter as Clement tossed a 72 yard touchdown bomb to Tate Berry to give Central a 12-0 lead. That was followed by Clement's 3rd TD pass of the game as he found Bryson Filben for 39 yards and just like that, the Tribe led by 19.
Campbell County quarter Mason Drube got serious later in the 3rd quarter with a pair of touchdown passes to Adam Gibson. The first one went for 80 yards and the 2nd one 29 to make it a 19-14 game.
Drube, who is a University of Wyoming commit, tossed another touchdown pass to Gibson in the 4th quarter giving the Camels their first lead of the game at 21-19. Drube threw for 279 yards in the game and Gibson caught 216 of those.
The Camels came up with an interception in the last minute to seal the win and improve to 2-0 on the year. They will be at home this week to take on Rock Springs. Cheyenne Central has absorbed two excruicating losses to begin the campaign and will visit Laramie this week.
