Cheyenne Makes the American Legion World Series Semis
The Cheyenne Sixers continued to make history for the state of Wyoming, as they reached the semifinals of the 2023 American Legion World Series.
Cheyenne will face Lincoln East (NE) on Monday at 2 p.m. Mountain Time. You can watch it on ESPNU.
The Sixers won their final pool play game in the Stars Division Saturday. Cheyenne beat defending champion Troy, AL, 3-2. They scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning for another heart-stopping victory.
Thanks to a walk, a single, two hit batters, and an RBI fielder’s choice, the Sixers cut their deficit to 2-1. Kaed Coates came through with a two-run single that put Cheyenne on top, 3-2. Troy went down in order in the bottom of the seventh, and the Sixers won.
Corey Williams got the win in relief of starter Julian Romero. He went 6.2 innings and allowed no runs on three hits. Williams walked three and struck out three. Coates and Kaden Anderson led the Cheyenne offense with two hits apiece.
Thanks to a 2-1 pool play record, and Troy losing to League City, TX, on Friday, the Sixers clinched a spot in the final four.
For the first time, a Wyoming team, Cheyenne, will play in the American Legion World Series semifinals on Monday afternoon.
