
Twelve Wyoming Coaches Nominated for National Awards This Year
Twelve coaches from Wyoming have been selected as National Coach of the Year finalists by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA). The 12 were nominated by the Wyoming Coaches Association. They will be recognized at the NHSACA Convention in Iowa City, Iowa, June 29 through July 1, 2026.
The 12 nominees are from all over the Cowboy State. The Wyoming NHSACA Coach of the Year finalists are as follows:
Mikah Kadera, Thunder Basin — Wrestling
Shelly Stremcha, Campbell County — Girls Track & Field
Kirk McLaughlin, Big Horn — Boys Track & Field
Bret Engdahl, Cody — Indoor Track (Special Sports)
Tamara Bretting, Laramie — Swimming & Diving
Tim Hester, Lander — Boys Assistant Coach
Brenna Abel, Worland — Girls Assistant Coach
Jennifer Scheer, Southeast — Girls Basketball
Sean Wilde, Central — Girls Cross Country
Chad Goff, East — Football
Brandon Deromedi, Thermopolis — Golf
Dick Edgcomb, Buffalo — Soccer
The Coach of the Year Awards banquet will be on July 1, 2026, in Iowa City.
The WCA puts forth its list of nominees against other coaches from around the country. Eight finalists are selected from each sport group. The assistant coaches can be from any sport.
