PhotoFest: Cody Drills Green River in 3A Football
In 3A football, #2 Cody rebounded from an emotional loss to #1 Star Valley last week and submerged Green River on Friday by the final score of 72-0. The Broncs are 6-1 and really took it to Green River right off the bat. To start the game, it was a 70-yard one-play drive for a touchdown from Owen Petersen to make it 7-0 and that was just the beginning.
Later in the opening quarter, Maddax Ball tossed an 18-yard touchdown pass to Trey Smith to double the lead to 14. Chase Hatch then returned a punt 46 yards for a touchdown and Petersen came up with a pic-six and just like that, it was 28-0.
You don't see this very often by the same player returned two punts for touchdowns as Chase Hatch ran one back for 36 yards in the 2nd quarter which was followed by Ball finding Smith for another TD. Later in the 2nd, Jarrett Christler had a 15-yard TD run and Ball scampered 31 yards to the end zone.
In the 3rd quarter, Cody recorded a safety, Boston Cronebaugh reeled off a 38-yard run to the house and Joe Arizmendy had a scoop and score in the 4th quarter.
Cody will be the #2 seed from the West in the 3A playoffs and will conclude the regular season with a road game at Jackson. Green River is 1-7 and has been eliminated from postseason contention.
