Cross-country runners are at the halfway point of the 2024 prep season in Wyoming. Five meets are in the state this week. Worland opens with running on Thursday. Evanston, Glenrock, Pavillion, and Saratoga serve as host sites on Friday. In the region, Boise, Idaho, and Rapid City, South Dakota have big cross-country meets. Three teams will compete in Colorado. The state championships are one month away in Cheyenne.

Thursday, Sept. 26:

Warrior Invitational 2024 at Green Hills Golf Course in Worland, WY – Buffalo, Burlington, Cody, Lander, Lovell, Powell, Riverton, Thermopolis, Worland.

Powell's Kinley Cooley won the girls' race by 30 seconds at 19:06.03. Trajn Swalstad of Worland won on his home course with a margin of nearly nine seconds at 15:57.6. The Cody Fillies and Buffalo Bison placed 1st in the team standings.

Friday, Sept. 27:

Glenrock XC Invitational at Glenrock HS in Glenrock, WY – Glenrock, Hulett, Sundance, Tongue River, Wheatland, Wright.

Grace Perkins of Tongue River won the girls' race at 21:20.28. Tobyn Teigen of Wright captured the boys' division at 16:39.63. Tongue River posted the only girls' team score of 10 points for 1st place. Wright won the boys' team crown with 34 points. Then, Glenrock, Wheatland, Sundance, and Tongue River.

Red Devil Invitational Cross Country Meet at Purple Sage Golf Course in Evanston, WY – Evanston, Lyman, Mountain View; Out-of-state team: Intermountain Christian School (UT), Manila (UT).

Mckynly Stephens of Mountain View placed 1st in the girls' division at 20:49.31. Paul Baxter of Evanston won on his home course by nearly a minute at 16:58.69.

Shana Ward Memorial 2024 at Saratoga Inn Golf Course in Saratoga, WY – Burns/Pine Bluffs, Cheyenne South, Green River, Kelly Walsh, Laramie, Natrona County, Rawlins, Rock River, Rock Springs, Saratoga, Wyoming Indian.

Kelly Walsh swept the individual and team titles. Lexi Longhurst of KW won the girls' race at 20:12.36. Micah Colling won the boys' race for the Trojans at 16:44.87.

Girls Team Scores = Kelly Walsh 27, Natrona County 36, Rawlins 98, Green River 101, Wyoming Indian 118, Saratoga 155.

Boys Team Scores = Kelly Walsh 30, Natrona County 36, Wyoming Indian 98, Rock Springs 110, Green River 150, Rawlins 154, Burns/Pine Bluffs 175.

Wind River XC Invite 2024 at Wind River HS in Pavillion, WY – Ft. Washakie, Wind River.

Linden Whiteplume of Ft. Washakie won the race at 19:57.45. There was no varsity girls' race.

Out-of-State Events:

Dave Sanders Invitational in Littleton, CO – Cheyenne East.

Maggie Madsen of East placed 4th. Lucas Steveson placed 9th in the boys' race. East was 7th in the boys and 12th in the girls division.

Longs Peak Invitational in Estes Park, CO – Torrington.

Kaycee Kosmicki finished in 20th place for Torrington in the girls' race.

Rapid City Invitational at Hart Ranch Resort, SD – Campbell County, Laramie, Newcastle, Sheridan, Thunder Basin.

Patrick Hardesty of Thunder Basin won the boys' race at 16:10.37. Sheridan won the boys' team championship at 90 points. Kayley Alicke of Sheridan was 19th and the top Wyoming girl. Sheridan girls were 6th, and Laramie was 8th.

Saturday, Sept. 28:

Out-of-State Events:

Bob Firman Invitational in Boise, ID – Jackson, Mountain View, Star Valley, Wheatland.

Jackson's Madison Antonino took 4th in the women's Elite division at 17:52.6. Star Valley's Jase Burton was 6th in the men's Elite race at 15:19.8. In the women's varsity division I Sec2 M-Z, Star Valley took 2nd as a team. Carlee Angell was 14th.
