First-Ever Title Showdown: Pine Bluffs and Rocky Mountain Battle for 1A 9-Man Supremacy [VIDEO]
The Pine Bluffs Hornets look to defend their crown in Saturday’s Class 1A 9-man State Championship football game against the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie. This will be the first title game between the two programs. Both No. 1 Pine Bluffs and the fourth-ranked Rocky Mountain have won four state championships apiece. The Hornets have two titles in the last three seasons, while the Grizzlies have not won a crown since 1998.
WYOPREPS 2025 CLASS 1A 9-MAN FOOTBALL TITLE GAME PREVIEW
All four of Pine Bluffs’ championships have been won in Laramie. All four of the Grizzlies’ titles came back in the 1990s, and while this is Rocky Mountain’s second trip to the Gem City, Pine Bluffs makes its fifth appearance in the last nine years. The two did play in the regular season. That was a neutral-site meeting in Glenrock, back in Week 2, and the Hornets won a weather-shortened game, 26-14. It was called at halftime.
WyoPreps received more insight into both teams from the two head coaches before the game. We spoke to Rocky Mountain head coach Jessee Wilson and Will Gray from Pine Bluffs.
