An annual contender over the past decade, the Cody Broncs will be one of the top teams again in Class 3A in 2024. Cody has finished runner-up over the past two seasons, and they would love to reach the peak again. It starts with pushing through a tough 3A West Conference and leaning on some top returning talent.

Cody was 10-2 last year and 4-1 in league games. Their only losses came to state champion and rival Star Valley. Cody had the top rushing attack last year at 243 yards per game or 6.6 yards per attempt. They were also No. 1 in total offense at 425 yards and averaged a 3A-best 41.3 points per game. Defensively, the Broncs were also right there. They gave up only 276 yards and 14.3 points per game. Cody also created takeaways. They finished plus-20 in turnover margin.

The Broncs return six all-state players in QB Maddax Ball, WR-DB Chase Hatch, RB-LB Grady McCarten, WR-DB Trey Smith, and two linemen Wyatt Barton and Warren Sorenson. Hatch was the 3A West Defensive Player of the Year, and McCarten was the 3A West Offensive Player of the Year. Hatch made 110 tackles last year and 4.5 tackles for loss. He had one fumble recovery, three interceptions, eight pass breakups, and one forced fumble. McCarten ran for almost 100 yards per game and scored 16 TDs. Ball was the No. 4 rated QB in 3A. He threw for 2,130 yards with 27 TDs and 13 interceptions. Ball completed 67.5 percent of his passes.

Ball, McCarten, and head coach Matt McFadden joined WyoPreps for a conversation about the Broncs in 2024 as part of our preseason football tour.
