After reaching the top of six-man football for the first time last season, the Burlington Huskies would love to go back-to-back. It will not be easy, and the Huskies know it. Burlington lost two all-state players and a few other valuable seniors, but they bring back four all-state players and are the preseason favorite with a No. 1 ranking in the WyoPreps Coaches and Media Preseason Football Poll.

Burlington was 10-1 in the 2023 season and won the West Conference at 5-0. The Huskies toppled Farson-Eden, Encampment, and Little Snake River en route to the school’s third football state championship. Their only setback was against Custer, MT (50-28). Burlington had the No. 1 offense in six-man football last year at 480 yards and 72 points per game. They had a balanced attack at 284 yards on the ground and 196 through the air. The Huskies’ defense allowed 329 yards and 44.4 points per game, which put them third. They lost all-state QB Jordan Michaels, who accounted for 294 yards per game and was responsible for 47 TDs (rushing and passing).

It's not like the cupboard is bare. Burlington has four all-state players returning, including Weston Gotfredson and Joe Bassett, who were second and fifth in receiving in 2023. They combined for nearly 900 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns. Bassett was third in defensive points in six-man and made 135 tackles, which included 13 tackles for loss. Two more returning all-state performers are Rykael Andrew and Jordan Casey.

WyoPreps spoke to Gotfredson, Bassett, Andrew, and head coach Trent Aagard at practice last Friday in our ninth and final stop on the preseason football tour. They preview the Huskies’ 2024 season.

Burlington heads to a jamboree this week before opening their season on Sept. 7 in a state championship game rematch at Little Snake River in Baggs. They host Kaycee, Meeteetse, and Riverside at home. The other road games are at Ten Sleep, Hulett, and Midwest. The Huskies have one open date in Week 6.
