At Rawlins, the temperature is forecasted to be in the 60s, with a chance of showers on both days and breezy conditions on Saturday. Class 2A – Kendrick Golf Course in Sheridan, WY (Big Horn & Tongue River are the co-hosts)

The Thermopolis girls and Upton boys are the defending team champions. Looking at season results, the Sundance and Thermopolis girls will contend for the title. On the boys’ side, Wright has been strong through the season with several tournament wins. Thermopolis and Kemmerer will also contend.

Savanah Peterson from Sundance and Logan Timberman of Upton will try to repeat as individual state champions. Peterson will see a challenge from freshman sensation Taylynn Wagner of Kemmerer and Lilly Johnson of Thermopolis. Timberman also has some challengers in Austen Christen and Trevan Benson of Kemmerer, Easton Lewis from Tongue River, Colton Gerler of Wright, and a few others.

It’s a shotgun start on both days. Friday will begin at 10 a.m., while Saturday’s final round starts at 9 a.m.

Class 3A – Rochelle Ranch Golf Course in Rawlins, WY

After a pair of teams won a third straight in 2023, there will be new champions this year. Wheatland does not have enough golfers for a team score, and Riverton is now a 4A school based on the new enrollment reclassification structure. Cody, Douglas, and Lander look to contend for the girls’ trophy. Wheatland is a favorite in the boys’ division, but Lander could play the role of spoiler.

After a pair of four-time champs graduated last school year, the 3A division will see new winners for the first time since 2020. Keigann Watson of Lander, Cody’s Eliana Hopkin, Maddie Brace of Douglas, and a couple of others have a shot at the girls’ title. Tate Nichols of Wheatland is favored in the boys’ division, but a few teammates, plus Jermaine Broussard of Worland, Carson Krebes of Cody, Craig Hansen from Lander, and a host of other boys will vie for the medalist honor.

Both days feature tee times at 10 a.m.

Class 4A – Valli Vu Golf Course in Afton, WY

The Sheridan girls and Cheyenne East boys are the defending team champs. Both will contend for the 2024 championship. Sheridan faces challenges from Kelly Walsh, Evanston, and Campbell County in the girls’ division. The East boys will contend against Campbell County and Kelly Walsh.

There will be a new individual medalist for the girls. Daniel Meyer of East captured last year’s boys’ crown and will have a chance to defend the title this weekend. Shelbi Gardner and Camryn Wagner from Sheridan, Khloe Romo of Kelly Walsh, Maddie Brown of Evanston, Jordyn Horsley of Star Valley, and Gabby Given of Campbell County seem like the top contenders for the girls’ medalist honor. For the boys, besides Meyer, there is Nash Coleman from East, Ryker Lind of Evanston, Jackson Burr of Campbell County, and Isaac Schmidt from Kelly Walsh look to be the top contenders.

Both days of the state championships feature tee times starting at 9 a.m. in Afton.

As the state golf championships have proved in the past, there are always dark horses in the individual fields who could pull a surprise.

WyoPreps will have some insight from the host coaches later in the week.
