PhotoFest! Kelly Walsh Rallies to Beat Thunder Basin
The most surprising football team in 4A this season has been Kelly Walsh as they sit at 3-1 after a 34-17 road win over Thunder Basin in Gillette on Friday. The Trojan's win total equals their total from the last 2 seasons combined. This group has played hard with a very productive running game but they have some challenging games ahead.
Thunder Basin started the scoring in the opening quarter as Jacob Wiph got into the end zone from the 1 so the Bolts led 7-0. Kelly Walsh came up with a 1-yard plunge for a score of their own, thanks to Ben Fetter but the extra point was missed and it was 7-6. Thunder Basin kicked a 2nd quarter field goal and led 10-6 after one-quarter of play
KW got serious in the 2nd quarter with Fetter catching a TD pass from Carter Alvar to take the lead at 13-10. Thunder Basin regained the advantage with a 24-yard touchdown connection from Hadley Hudson to Garrett Breuer so the Bolts were ahead 17-13 at the halftime intermission.
The Trojans had 3 rushing touchdowns in the 2nd half, one from Landon Walker that went for 5 yards in the 3rd quarter and Wyatt Humbel ran it in from 8 yards out in the 4th quarter. Jaxon Terry had a 7 run for a score so the Trojans controlled the game. KW rang up 359 yards in the ground and that chewed up a lot of clock and kept Thunder Basin's offense on the bench. The Trojans win it 34-17 but they'll have their hands full this week with a road game at #1 Sheridan. Thunder Basin is 0-4 and the Bolts will be at home to take on Cheyenne Central.
