PhotoFest! State 4A Golf
The State 4A Golf Tournaments were held over the weekend at the beautiful and challenging Powder Horn Golf Club in Sheridan. In the boys' tournament, Daniel Meyers of Cheyenne East edged Jackson's Joey McNamara by one stroke to win the state championship. Meyers carded rounds of 77 and 74 and took 21st in last year's state tournament so that's some tremendous improvement. McNamara shot 77 and 75. In 3rd place was Josh Lane of Kelly Walsh who was 2 strokes off the pace. Lane shot 76 and 77 and was the defending 4A state champion. Nash Coleman of East was 4th and he placed 24th at state a year ago. Coleman recorded rounds of 80-76 and finished 3 strokes back. Jackson Evans of Campbell County and Bodie Williams of Thunder Basin finished in a tie for 5th, 6 strokes off the lead. Evans shot 84 in the first round and a sterling 73 in the 2nd. Williams shot 78-79.
The 4A girls' tournament went right down to the wire as Natrona's Cheyenne Ward prevailed by one stroke over Gabi Wright from Sheridan. Ward shot 82 and 83 and placed 4th at last year's state tournament. Wright carded rounds of 84 and 82 and took 6th last year at state. Sheridan's Shelbi Gardner was 3rd, two strokes off the pace with rounds of 90 & 77. She was 10th a year ago. Kelly Walsh's Madie Griffin was 4th, 3 strokes off the lead, shooting 85 and 83. Griffin was 9th last season and Natrona's Maggie Teague was 5th with an 85 & 90. She was 6th in 2022.
In the boys' team standing, Cheyenne East won the 4A state title with 625, Jackson 2nd with 644, and Kelly Walsh 3rd with 649. Sheridan took first on the girls' side with 511, Natrona 2nd with 528, and Kelly Walsh 3rd with 553.
