The first weekend has plenty of action on the mats for Wyoming High School wrestling fans. We open the season with three duals, one triangular, and a brawl hosted by the Star Valley girls. Then, over the weekend, there are many in-state and out-of-state tournaments. Cheyenne East hosts its annual Charlie Lake Duals and Invite. Cody hosts an invite for girls’ wrestlers, while the boys head to either Afton, Lusk, or Powell. The out-of-state competitions are highlighted by wrestling in Idaho, South Dakota, and Utah.

Thunder Ridge from Idaho won the team title with 277 points. Star Valley took 2nd at 243.5 team points. Pinedale placed 3rd with 166 points. Star Valley had 2 champions: Carlee Angell (110) and Remington Aullman (135). Pinedale had 3 champions: McKinzie Mortensen (115), Trinity Brannan (170), and Fatima Mata (235).

Cheyenne East won the girls' team title with 190 points. Green River placed third at 144.5. East's champs were Kaliyah Bento (105) and Halley House (145). Viviann Soto from Rawlins won at 125. From Green River, the Wolves' champions were Bianca Maez (130) and Adia Price (190). Zuri Sanders (135) and Rachel Gertsch (140) were champions from Cheyenne Central. Nichole Sumare from Burns/Pine Bluffs won the title at 155. Sophie Meyer of Wheatland won 170, and Torrington's Cathryn Reimer took the crown at 235.

Tiger Invite at Lusk HS = Glenrock, H.E.M., Lusk, Newcastle, Saratoga, Sundance, Upton, Wright, Newell (SD)

Glenrock took 1st with 75 points. Wright was 2nd with 69 points, and Upton took 3rd with 65 points. The Herders champions were Lucy Ticknor at 120, Gillian Holman at 125, and Danika Harris at 235.

Corner Canyon Cup at Corner Canyon HS in Draper, UT = Evanston

Evanston's Hadley Huffaker won the Rookie girls 93-100 division. Evie Stahl won the Rookie 141-155.

Evans Memorial Round Robin at Grantsville HS in Grantsville, UT = Lyman

The Eagles had four champions, two in the advanced division and two in the rookie division. That was Karina Santiago, Janessa Martin, Lakely Douglass, and Elizabeth Maxfield, respectively.

Glenrock wins the Tiger Invite with 187.5 pts and five 1st-place wrestlers, Brody Allen (132), Wes Holman (150), Preston Sorensen (175), Joel Williams (190), and Brady Calmes (215). Thunder Basin JV was 2nd and Upton took 3rd. The Bobcats had two 1st-place wrestlers: Landon Norman (138) and Trey Schneider (144).

Thunder Basin won the Invite with 208 pts and had seven wrestlers place 1st in their respective pools. Finnley Sieler (105B), Jaylee Knight (125B), Natalie McKillop (130B), Josie Raber (135B), Rowan Ortega-Hand (140), Freedom Johnston (155C), and Cheyenne Marshall (170C). Laurel, MT was 2nd and Rock Springs finished 3rd. The Tigers had three 1st-place wrestlers, Sarah Eddy (155), Paige Tongate (130), and Rylin Plant (105).

Punchers' Gabby Bennett took 2nd at 125. Riley Meyer (115) and Kaylie Julander (145) were 1st-place wrestlers for the Wranglers. No team scores were kept.

Lyman had three wrestlers take 1st in their respective divisions: Karina Santiago (Adv 139-150), Janessa Martin (Adv 179-190), and Lakely Douglass (Rookie 104-107). No team scores were kept.

Rapid City Invite at Summit Arena in Rapid City, SD = Campbell County, Kelly Walsh, Natrona County, Sheridan, Worland

Natrona County finished the best out of WY teams in 8th place. Caydence Watters (125) and Marley Dickinson (235) both took 3rd-place for NC. Sheridan was 12th, Kelly Walsh took 20th, Campbell County finished 30th, and Worland was 35th. 

Scottsbluff Bearcat Brawl at Scottsbluff HS in Scottsbluff, NE = Burns/Pine Bluffs, Cheyenne East, Laramie, Lingle-Ft. Laramie/Southeast, Moorcroft, Rawlins, Wheatland

Cheyenne East took the 1st-place victory. Lingle-Ft. Laramie/Southeast was 3rd, Burns/Pine Bluffs was 4th, Rawlins took 5th, Wheatland finished 6th, Laramie took 8th, and Moorcroft was 9th. T-Birds had five wrestlers go undefeated in duals: Kaliyah Bento (105), Harley Frick (110), Potter Love (140), Halley House (145), and Abigail Clay (235). Trinity Martin from LFL/SE went 4-0 in her duals.

Star Valley takes the home brawl victory by going 7-0 in duals. Kimball Perry (138), Tel Parry (144), and Peyton McMurdo (157) all went undefeated on the day. Thunder Ridge, ID took 2nd and Logan, UT was 3rd. 

Charlie Lake Invite at Cheyenne East HS = Burns/Pine Bluffs, Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne East, Cheyenne South, Douglas, Laramie, Lingle-Ft. Laramie/Southeast, Lyman, Pinedale, Rawlins, Torrington, Wheatland, Alliance (NE), Berthoud (CO), Eaton (CO), Highlands Ranch (CO), Minatare (NE), Poudre (CO), Sidney (NE), Thompson Valley (CO), Valley (CO), Windsor (CO)

Windsor, CO takes the victory with 182 pts. Cheyenne East was 2nd with 166 pts. Kozad Porter had a 1st-place finish at 138 for the T-Birds. Pinedale had two wrestlers take 1st-place, Wylee Wilson (132) and Cale Dauwen (190), to lead them to a 3rd-place finish with 104.5 pts. 

Powell Invite at Powell HS = Buffalo, Cody, Dubois, Greybull/Riverside, Jackson, Lander, Lovell, Powell, Riverton, Rocky Mountain, Shoshoni, Thermopolis, Tongue River, Wind River, Worland, Wyoming Indian, Hardin (MT), Huntley Project (MT), Laurel (MT), Lockwood (MT), Red Lodge (MT)

Team scores were not kept. There were four Wyoming wrestlers who placed 1st in the best pool of the weight class: Pryce Wiginton (Riv, 126), Santiago Cruz (RS, 144), Travis Hurtado (Riv, 165), and Anker Stewart (Cody, 285). 

Cache Valley Classic at Green Canyon HS in North Logan, UT = Mountain View

Mountain View finished 7th with 60.5 pts. Lander Rice at 132 was the highest-placed Buffalo in 4th.

Punchers' Nate Brown finished 4th in the 150B pool.

Corner Canyon Cup Duals at Corner Canyon HS in Draper, UT = Evanston

Red Devils took 4th place in Pool B. Tayson Moon won all his matches at 113 for Evanston.

Rapid City Invite at Summit Arena in Rapid City, SD = Campbell County, Kelly Walsh, Natrona County, Thunder Basin, Worland

Thunder Basin finished best of the WY teams in 8th. Gage Robinson placed 2nd at 215 for the Bolts. Kelly Walsh was 11th, Natrona County took 14th, Worland was 36th, and Campbell County finished 39th. William Alt was 2nd at 157 for the Trojans, and the Mustangs' Brodey Wilcox finished 1st at 165. 

Wasatch Intermountain Duals at Wasatch HS in Heber City, UT = Green River, Kemmerer
