Sheridan Seniors Sweep WyoPreps Athlete of the Week Honors [VIDEO]

Two Sheridan seniors who performed at the highest level during regional wrestling and at the boys’ swimming and diving state championships were selected as the WyoPreps Athletes of the Week on February 25, 2026. Sheridan’s Dani Grooms and Ben Forsythe were the winners based on their performances. Grooms won a regional wrestling crown and helped her team to the top of the podium. Forsythe won two more individual event titles at the 4A boys’ swimming and diving state championships. WyoPreps analyzed performances from the competition week of February 16 through February 21, 2026, and picked these two student-athletes. Previous weeks are not part of the decision.

Girls’ Winner

Grooms went 4-0 at the 4A East Regional Wrestling Championships in Douglas on February 20 and 21, 2026. She captured the 145-pound title and improved to 30-6 on the season. Grooms pinned all four of her opponents. She also helped Sheridan place first in the team standings. Grooms was in her first year of wrestling.

WyoPreps visited with Dani to discuss her great weekend. She reflected on her matches, how she executed her plan, what it meant to win a regional title in her first year of wrestling, and other aspects of her experience.

Boys’ Winner

Forsythe was a star at the 2026 Wyoming High School 4A Boys Swimming and Diving State Championships on February 19 and 20, 2026. Ben won two individual titles in the 50 Free and 100 Breaststroke races. Both of Forsythe’s times were automatic All-American consideration times. He won the 50 Free at 20.28 seconds and the 100 Breaststroke at 56.54 seconds. Forsythe swam faster in the 50 Free prelims and recorded a time of 20.22 seconds, which was .01 away from the state record. In both races, it was the third straight Forsythe came away with the win. Ben was named the 4A Athlete of the Meet and Athlete of the Year.

WyoPreps chatted with Forsythe after the championships. He discussed his performance at the state championships, including winning his events again, coming close to a state record in the 50 Free, and choosing to swim the breaststroke, among other highlights.
