There I was, flying in my little Cessna 172, just east of the power station near Glenrock Wyoming when I saw this weird scene below me.

After thinking about it a moment I realized I had seen this shape before.

But why so many in one place?

What are they?

A question like this should be handed off to those trusted listeners of the Wake Up Wyoming radio show.

So I asked them:

Does anyone know what they are? Real answers along with UFO conspiracy theories are welcome.

First I'll give you the wrong answers.

Then let's have a look at the WEIRD conspiracy theories that I knew the folks across Wyoming would come up with. (God bless you people).

NOPE! Not irrigation pivots. This has an entirely different look and there is nothing planted in them.

Though they are large they are still too small and too close together for missile silos. But I can see why you might think that.

The first clue comes from the name of the road that runs right up the middle of all of these circles.

"TANK FARM ROAD."

Then, many of the same answers came back to me filling in the blanks.

I looked it up and, yes, that is what these were, at one time.

Rows of big oil tanks were set out in this area.

A dirt burm was built around them to contain a spill, or even a spill and fire.

The tanks are long gone but the rings still dot the landscape.

In some areas, out in these Western states, there are HUGE fields of these rings.

BUT ENOUGH OF THE SERIOUS ANSWERS!

Let's have some fun.

I don't believe that answer. BUT I LIKE IT!

This is when people start getting creative.

WHO CARES what they really are?

What can you imagine?

If you don't know the right answer, be creative.

It's more fun.

YES, you can enjoy your beverage upstairs.
