Former Spokane Sheriff Runs For Wyoming Governor
Toss another hat in for Governor of Wyoming. This gentleman is well known in certain circles.
Former Spokane County sheiff, Ozzie Knezovich announced his candidacy for governor of Wyoming on Tuesday via social media.
He does have Wyoming roots. Knezovich was born and raised in Rock Springs and Superior, Wyoming. His family has lived in Superior, Wyoming, since 1907, where his great-grandfather, grandfather, and father worked in coal mines.
Knezovich is an Army veteran and a retired law enforcement officer. He served as the longest-serving sheriff in Spokane County history. Today, he serves as the Public Safety Director/Chief of Police for the Town of Superior, Wyoming.
Superior is a town in Sweetwater County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 183.
Knezovich released the following statement alongside his announcement:
"I enjoy serving my community — whether it's taking drug dealers off our streets or making sure our young people have access to the education and training that leads to good Wyoming jobs close to home. As Sheriff, I served nearly 17 years in the executive branch of government. I understand what it takes to make things happen. More importantly, I understand it is the job of the Governor to stand for Wyoming, to make Wyoming First.
I look forward to serving the People of Wyoming and working to make Wyoming the greatest place in America to live, work and raise a family."
But can he run? The Wyoming constitution says that a person must be a Wyoming resident for at least 5 years before running. While he was raised in Wyoming, the question will be, has he been back long enough to run for Governor?
Knezovich answered this concern by saying, "I'm checking with an attorney because we have owned a residence here for nearly 10 years."
He has a lot of work to do. So far, all he has going is his Facebook page. He will need to let the rest of Wyoming know who he is.
