The Cheyenne Police Department is still working to solve a double homicide that took place eight years ago today.

The horrific murders happened around 9:30 a.m. at The Coin Shop at 510 W. Lincolnway in downtown Cheyenne, just blocks from the Depot Plaza where a Cheyenne Frontier Days pancake breakfast was winding down.

Large crowds were circulating through the area when police received a report of an armed robbery in progress from one of the shop’s customers.

Officers arrived to find the owner, 67-year-old Dwight Brockman, and his friend, 76-year-old George "Doc" Manley, shot to death.

According to his obituary, Brockman had owned the small retail coin shop for 33 years.

A witness described the suspect, who fled the scene in an unknown direction, as a 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8 Hispanic male wearing a dark-colored shirt.

Police released a facial composite of the suspect that afternoon, and a more detailed sketch the following evening.

Since then, police have poured countless man-hours into the high-profile case, but have yet to find the killer.

"The investigation is still active and ongoing," Public Information Officer Alex Farkas told KGAB Radio Thursday afternoon. "Detectives are working to follow up on any and all leads."
