A 34-year-old Texas man is behind bars after allegedly punching his wife of six months in the face and strangling her.

According to arrest records, Cheyenne police were called to a reported physical disturbance at about 11:58 p.m. on Saturday, June 10.

Police contacted Javier Soto's wife, who reportedly told them that Soto had punched her in the face numerous times and strangled her with his right hand for approximately 25 seconds.

The woman said the physical attack stemmed from jealousy issues.

Police say Soto's wife had visible injuries on her face, ligature marks on the right side of her neck, and petechiae in her right eye.

Soto, who was not contacted during the initial call, was taken into custody at about 1:44 a.m. the following morning, June 11, after police located him inside his vehicle in the west parking lot at Westgate Village Apartments.

He was subsequently charged with misdemeanor domestic battery and felony strangulation.

Soto made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court Tuesday morning, during which he was informed of the charges against him and appointed a public defender.

His bond was set at $5,000 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for next Thursday, June 22, at 2 p.m.
