Bien Touts Leadership, Calls For Data Center Moratorium
Wyoming Republican Gubernatorial candidate Brent Bien says he thinks his leadership qualities set him apart from the other candidates for governor in 2026.
Bien is battling State Superintendent Megan Degenfelder and longtime legislator Eric Barlow for the GOP nomination for governor. The winner of the GOP primary will be heavily favored to be the next governor of ruby-red Wyoming.
Bien appeared on the ''Weekend in Wyoming' program on am 650 KGAB this past Saturday. You can hear that interview in the audio file at the bottom of this article.
When asked what sets him apart from Barlow and Degenfelder, Bien said ''My whole adult life has been about leadership. And that's what's missing in Cheyenne. My objective is to restore principled conservative leadership, accountability and discipline to Cheyenne. I've been leading my entire adult life as a Marine Corps officer from small to large outfits and been in charge of projects as large as our state budgets and I've known where all the money has gone. It behooves me why we don't know that in this state."
While Degenfelder has the endorsement of President Trump, Bien says, "I've made it a point not to seek endorsements from any electeds that are out there." He goes on to say that "the only endorsement that really matters to me is from the folks."
Bien Calls For Moratorium On Data Centers
Bien called for a moratorium on data centers. ''First, people need to be brought into the loop on all of this, and I think they haven't been." He thinks a moratorium would allow for that to happen.
Bien says one of his first acts as governor would be to sign an executive order prohibiting elected officials and bureaucrats from signing non-disclosure agreements, or NDAs. Bien says such agreements have been a big barrier to the public getting needed information on data centers.
Bien says he would also work to repeal a law that gives data centers significant tax exemptions.
When asked how long the moratorium should last, Bien said "I don't know. I guess it depends how deep some of this goes." He added that he would support it being for however long it takes to get adequate information on data centers and their impacts.
