The Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities says seasonal work at the Sherrard water treatment plant may cause some tap water discoloration over the next few days,

According to a BOPU news release, the water discoloration is caused by increased stream flows at the plant, but the agency says the water is safe.

Customers are being told, however, that they should avoid using hot water or doing laundry while the water is discolored.

According to the release, customers should be able to clear their water by running cold water from a faucet for about 20-30 minutes.

The release says you should start with the lowest faucet in your home and then open one faucet at a time, moving from the lowest floor to the highest.

The BOPU website on Friday morning also said the agency was receiving higher than usual call volumes, and said callers may experience longer waits than usual when trying to get through. It urged customers who are not able to get through on the phone to contact the agency on it's website at customer service@cheyennebopu.org.
