Cheyenne City Council Votes To Explore F.E. Warren Annexation
The Cheyenne City Council on Monday night voted to explore the possibility of annexing F.E. Warren Air Force Base into the city.
It's important to note that the resolution, which was approved unanimously, is not an attempt to annex the base, but merely directs city staff to look into that possibility.
Councilman Richard Johnson told Townsquare Media that he voted for it on that basis, adding that he would decide on whether to actually support annexation when and if a specific proposal goes to the council.
You can read the resolution and supporting documents here. The base includes a little under 6,000 acres and roughly 3,000 people live there.
The idea of annexing the air base is not a new one, in fact, it's been something that has come up periodically for at least 30 years. But to date, no action to do so has ever gotten serious traction.
