The names of the four semifinalists for the open Ward I Cheyenne City Council Seat have been announced.

A total pf 13 candidates applied for the open seat, which became vacant when long-time Councilman Scott Roybal unexpectedly passed away.

The Names Of The Four Semifinalists

The 13 applicants were interviewed this week by Ward 1 Council Representatives Pete Laybourn and Jeff White. On Thursday afternoon, the semifinalists for the seat were announced. They are David Cook, Maren Kallas, Tamara Trujillo and Lawrence Wolfe.

Trujillo served one term in the Wyoming House of Representatives representing House District 44 as a Republican. She was defeated in the 2024 GOP Primary Election by Lee Filer.

The semifinalists will be interviewed by White and Laybourn on Monday night, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. at the Kiwanis Community House. As with the first round of interviews., the sessions will be open to the public, but public comment will not be accepted.

“We want to thank all of the candidates who applied to fill the vacant seat,” Councilman Pete Laybourn said. “We’re looking forward to hearing more during next week’s interviews.”

“Each candidate should be commended for taking the time to apply, interview, and share their vision for our community,” Councilman White said.

When the semifinal round of interviews is finished, White and Laybourn will either agree on one candidate or else each nominate one candidate for the full council to consider. The full council will take a final vote to decide who will be seated.

That vote is slated for the November 10 council meeting. The person chosen will then fill out the remainder of Roybal's term that ends in January of 2027. That person can also choose to run for a full term on the council in the 2026 elections.
