A 31-year-old Cheyenne man has been sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for fentanyl trafficking, police announced Thursday.

Damontri Marcell McCormick was arrested on Nov. 30, 2022, following a warrant service at 4010 Cobblestone Ct. in northeast Cheyenne.

According to police spokeswoman Alex Farkas, the SWAT team was deployed to the home around 9 p.m. after it was determined that McCormick, a man with a history of violence who was being sought on four warrants out of Laramie County, was at the home.

Farkas says the SWAT team attempted to communicate with McCormick, asking him to exit the home, but he refused and barricaded himself in the attic.

In an attempt to safely remove McCormick from the home, officers deployed a variety of non-lethal tools, including gas.

The situation was brought to an end at 11:30 p.m. when McCormick fell through the floor of the attic into the home’s interior, where he was arrested.

McCormick was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center on the warrants -- a District Court warrant for failure to appear on a civil issue that was signed by Judge Peter Froelicher on May 2, 2022; a District Court warrant for failure to appear for a court hearing that was signed by Judge Thomas Campbell on Oct. 18, 2022, a Circuit Court warrant for failure to pay that was signed by Judge Thomas Lee on Oct. 20, 2022, for interference with a $720 bond; and a Circuit Court warrant for failure to appear for a change of plea hearing that was signed by Judge Sean Chambers on Oct. 24, 2022.

He was charged with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl after law enforcement served a search warrant at his home and found approximately 1,600 fentanyl pills weighing 160 grams in his bedroom.

In addition to the 70-month prison sentence, McCormick was also ordered to pay $500 in community restitution and a $100 special assessment.

McCormick will be subject to four years of supervised release once he is released from prison.
