A young man with a history of drug possession is in hot water after reportedly, once again, getting caught with drugs.

According to a booking sheet, on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 1:42 a.m., a Laramie County Sheriff's deputy contacted a vehicle in regard to a call for service at the Outlaw Saloon at 312 S. Greeley Hwy.

The deputy says the passenger, 24-year-old transient Joseph Alexander Orellana, lied about his name.

K-9 Sniff Leads to Drugs

The deputy says a free air sniff was conducted and a positive alert was given for the odor of narcotics, and a subsequent search of Orellana's property revealed misdemeanor amounts of marijuana and suspected methamphetamines.

Warrant

Orellana was also found to have a warrant out of Campbell County.

Orellana was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center and, because he was previously convicted of drug possession on May 16, 2024, and Feb. 10, 2025, subsequently charged with possession of a controlled substance - third or subsequent offense, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison, up to a $5,000 fine, or both.

He was also charged with interference with a peace officer - no injury, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail, up to a $1,000 fine, or both.

Initial Court Appearance

On Tuesday, Nov. 4, Orellana was seen in Laramie County Circuit Court in front of Judge Antoinette Williams on the charges.

Williams appointed Orellana a public defender and his preliminary hearing was set for Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 3 p.m.

Williams then asked for the state's position regarding bond.

"The state would request $5,000," the state said. "Mr. Orellana has a history of prior felony charges for possession of a controlled substance. I would note for the court that his interference with a peace officer was lying about his identity, obstructing their investigation. He has no phone number. He has no address."

"I would note that he has a warrant out of Campbell County," the state added. "The state believes that without some sort of substantial cash bond Mr. Orellano will not appear in court."

Bond Set at $5K Cash

"Your bond is $5,000 cash," Williams told Orellana. "If you post that I'll set bond conditions."

Please remember that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
