There has been a fair amount of comment on local social media recently about the 23 flock cameras that have been deployed in Cheyenne by the Cheyenne Police Department.

The cameras are used to read license plates on cars. But not everyone is comfortable with the devices.

The ACLU Says ''You Are Being Watched"

For example, the ACLU of Wyoming recently on Facebook warned Cheyenne residents that 'You Are Being Watched." The ACLU post included warnings that the cameras can be used to track people on a daily basis. "Flock is building a giant camera network that records people’s comings and goings across the nation, and then makes that data available for search by any of its law enforcement customer."

Laramie County Democrats have similar concerns, and have posted a petition against the camera system.

Camera Company: Your Privacy Is Protected

But the company that makes the cameras says they don't invade privacy. On one of its  websites, Flock writes "Privacy is not something anyone should have to sacrifice for safety, which is why Flock customers own 100% of their data. This means we will never sell or share public safety data or footage with third parties. Once captured, footage is transmitted immediately to a secure cloud server and then deleted from the device. All footage is deleted from our servers after 30 days on default, or in the timeframe required by state and local law."

So how are the cameras being used in Cheyenne? Are we being watched as we go about our business? We'll put those questions to Cheyenne Police Chief Mark Francisco on the Weekend in Wyoming program on KGAB AM 650 on Saturday at 11:35 am.

But that isn't the only topic that will be discussed between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on January 24. We'll also get the latest on a long-time Cheyenne tradition, the Delta Kappa Gamma used book sale. We recently aired a segment saying the dates for the annual event were 'up in the air." That's no longer true. Join us on Saturday to get the latest.

And we'll also hear about an upcoming ''Wake Up To Health" event being presented by Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.

Join us on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. for Weekend In Wyoming!
