A 40-year-old Cheyenne woman is facing a felony charge after allegedly passing a fake $20 bill at McDonald's.

According to a booking sheet, a Laramie County Sheriff's deputy arrested Tammy Marie Bocock at a home in the 1200 block of Dot Ray Place at 12:25 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, the morning after the crime is alleged to have occurred.

Bocock was taken to the Laramie County Detention Center and subsequently charged with forgery - utters, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine, or both.

Initial Court Appearance

Later that afternoon, Bocock was seen in Laramie County Circuit Court in front of Judge TJ Forwood on the charge.

Forwood appointed Bocock a public defender and asked the state for recommendation on bond.

"The defendant has a brief criminal history involving an interference with a peace officer as well as accessory after the fact, however, there's no disposition listed for these," the state said, recommending $100 cash.

Bond Set at $1K Cash or Surety

Forwood set Bocock's bond at $1,000 cash, but Bocock said she was "confused" by his decision, given the state's recommendation.

"I believe you're a risk to the community," said Forwood.

"Why am I a risk to the community," asked Bocock. "I take care of my elderly grandmother. That is all I do right now ... Is there any way we can do like a surety?"

Forwood agreed to set Bocock's bond at $1,000 cash or surety, explaining to her that she could use a bondsman, but Bocock continued to beg for a lower bond, something Forwood would not entertain.

Out on Bond

Bocock did post bond and is scheduled to be back in Circuit Court for her preliminary hearing on Friday, Aug. 22, at 9:45 a.m.

Please remember that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
